Nodal Power Analyst

Tasks/Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, execute, and calibrate security constrained optimal power flow models using power system modelling software such as PowerWorld, PSSE and Dayzer.
  • Research and model supply, demand, and grid congestion fundamentals in US electricity markets for daily financial trading and to assess longer-term trends.
  • Oversee and maintain in-house production cost modelling platform to mimic ISO market operations with an ability to predict electricity market prices.
  • Develop strategies for different nodal trading products to leverage congestion risk with fundamental power-flow models.
  • Use advanced electrical engineering and operations research to support decision-making and trading in US electricity markets using power flow optimization techniques.
  • Perform in-depth congestion analysis using power-flow modelling techniques involving outage distribution factors, contingency analysis, and optimal power flow (OPF).
  • Research transmission upgrades in regional RTOs and analyse its impact on the transmission network.
  • Analyse and study the generation interconnection reports to quantify its impact on congestion patterns within the electrical grid.
  • Track and analyse electricity markets and communicate efficiently regarding market conditions to the trading team.

Qualifications:

  • Educational qualifications include a bachelor’s in electrical or mechanical engineering. Focus on power systems is preferred.
  • Must have 2+ years of experience in field of power markets.
  • Hands on experience with production cost modelling software such as PowerWorld and Dayzer.
  • Advanced technology skills desired for data-mining purposes; Knowledge of SQL programming is a plus.
  • Proven Commercial experience taking Congestion Risk in Nodal Markets.
  • Ability to develop compelling and analytical data visualizations using one or more software tools, such as Tableau, Power BI, Excel, or others.
  • Team-oriented and collaborative.
