Senior West Power Trader
Tasks/Responsibilities:
- Trades physical and financial power in the Western Interconnect with strong focus on Physical markets.
- Develops and maintains business relationships with other market participants and counterparties that provide market knowledge and increases trading profitability.
- Identify availability and secure transmission service for electric transactions through Open Access Same-time Information Systems (OASIS). Uses knowledge of the transmission grid to create arbitrage opportunities. Purchases forward transmission positions on constrained paths when appropriate.
- Analyzes energy and transmission alternatives to optimize profits and ensure delivery.
- Tagging of energy transactions on OASIS.
- Accurately record purchase and sale transactions on appropriate blotters or trade tickets and ensure that all necessary transaction details are entered into Altop’s deal capture system.
- Works with credit and contracts departments to establish new trading partnerships and opportunities.
Qualifications:
- 4+ Years experience in energy trading, derivatives, marketing or bulk power system management. Experience in West Power markets is a must.
- Bachelor’s degree in economics, Mathematics, Finance, Engineering. Master’s degree preferred.
- Proven record in power trading with physical/financial power dynamics with characteristics of hydro, coal, wind, solar and gas fired generation.
- Knowledge of financial and accounting practices used for trades in Western Interconnect.
- Strong written, verbal communication skills, Strong problem solving, analytical and conflict resolution skills.
- Knowledge of Western Interconnect, Pacific Northwest and California ISO (Independent System Operator) supplemental market and physical markets (Mid-C, Palo Verde, and CAISO delivery hubs), SPP market and DC Ties.
- Ability to make decisions quickly and mitigate risks while ensuring compliance with prescribed parameters.
- Self-starter with the ability to work effectively in a fast paced, multi-tasking, team environment.
