Senior Southeast Power Trader
Job Summary:
The Southeast Power Trader will actively manage buying/selling of power and related derivatives in the Southeastern U.S., optimizing portfolio value, managing risk, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Monitor and analyze Real-Time and Day-Ahead power market dynamics, including supply-demand balance, price signals, and regulatory developments.
- Develop and execute short-term optimization strategies for physical and financial power positions to optimize profitability and cost.
- Execute trades across markets (e.g., day-ahead, intraday, balancing) using trading platforms and automated systems.
- Manage risk exposures: monitor positions, enforce risk limits, and implement mitigation strategies.
- Maintain detailed P&L tracking, activity reports, and trend analysis; present findings to internal stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely with counterparties, other desks (e.g., origination, credit, operations), and procurement teams.
- Provide mentorship or guidance to junior traders and support process optimization.
Required Qualification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or similar.
- Proven experience (typically 5+ years) in power trading, ideally within physical and short-term markets.
- Strong quantitative skills, familiarity with modeling and pricing analytic
Preferred Qualification:
- Working knowledge of Southeast regional markets (e.g., regional ISOs, pipeline dynamics).
- Experience with trading software, intraday platforms, and automated execution tools.
- High stress tolerance, excellent decision-making, and communication skill
